Getting Married

In the clowders, getting married is one of the most important events in a cat's life. Marriage is considered to be the ultimate bond between two cats in which their spirits are bound together in the eyes of Opa. Marriage can only occur between two cats. Polyamorous relationships are nonexistent in the clowders for they are often heavily looked down upon and rarely taken seriously. No cleric will ever marry more than two cats.

Rituals Of Marriage

Proposing

When a cat proposes, they will find an object that is deeply symbolic or meaningful to their significant other and will give it to them during the proposal. Should their partner accept the proposal, they will begin planning for their wedding.

Once married, the cat who initially proposed will take their new spouse into their home. Proposing to a cat means that one's home is open and accepting of them. This means that very often couples will discuss with each other as well as their families to see who proposes. As a result, there are very few 'spur of the moment' proposals.

Lover's Bind

Lover's Bind is a melon that two cats will eat during their wedding ceremony. The melon is split in half with a sharp rock by the priest and each half is given to the couple to eat. This is seen as symbolic, as each cat is eating one half of the same fruit, binding them together. Once the fruit is eaten, ceremony is over a small party follows.

Lover's Bind is a difficult plant to raise. Most cats will usually just buy one from the local priest instead of growing their own since most attempts with no experience often fail.

Opa Figurines

After the wedding ceremony, cats will buy a dense log and carve it into a small statue of Opa to invite his blessing upon their marriage. They will usually leave this carving by their front door for the first week or so of their marriage before moving it into their room.

The quality of the Opa figurine varies depending on the couple. Most Opa figurines are barely recognizable as the god of love, but most cats believe it's the thought that counts.

How To Get Married

Getting your cat officially married to another in the group, while difficult has a few benefits both lore-wise and mechanic-wise.

Getting married means that your cat:

- Can give a good home to their children.

- Can start a family bank account, in which every cat registered under that family may contribute and pull money from. This means that both cats in the marriage as well as their children can have access to this account.

- Have higher odds to gain Blessings on their children as well as having more children.

So How Do I Get My Cat Married?

Getting married is a joint effort between two users. If you are marrying your own characters together you must pay the full price, however if you are marrying your character to someone else, you each pay half price.

NO MATTER WHAT, BOTH CATS GETTING MARRIED MUST AT BE YOUNG ADULTS AT LEAST.

It costs 500 Stobs to get married. Should you be marrying your cat to someone else, the both of your cats must have 250 Stobs in their balance. If you are marrying your own characters, both cats must still have 250 in their balance, so you will have to earn the money with both of them.

Once you have the stobs to marry, got to the #family-requests channel in the Discord server, fill out this form, and post it there.

MARRIAGE REQUEST

Cat 1: [Cat's Name] ([M/F]) ([Owner Of Cat])

Cat 2: [Cat's Name] ([M/F]) ([Owner Of Cat])

If your request has any issues, a mod will personally message you. If not, a rose will appear under your request showing that it has been accepted.

Divorce

Divorce is something highly discouraged within the clowders. Couple's rarely split, mostly opting to try and work things out instead. To divorce is to spit on Opa's blessing.

Mechanically, if your cat divorces they permanently lose their Opa blessing, even if they remarry. There is an exception to this rule in which the cat yours is married to has an owner who is inactive or no longer interacts with you. If this is the case, please message a mod and we will work something out.

Having Children

In the clowders, children are seen as gifts no matter the circumstance. It is believed that Opa himself lovingly crafts each child a couple has.

TO HAVE CHILDREN, A CHARACTER MUST BE A TEEN AT LEAST.

In order to have children, both cats must pay the fee for Moonlighter service. The fee is 250 Stobs. When sending in a request to have children, each cat must have at least 125 Stobs in their balance.

If you like, you may also pay an additional 50 stobs (Bringing the total up to 300 stobs and requiring each cat to pay 150 stobs) to leave an offering at Oma's Alter at the local church, which will enter your children for Legacy Mode. To find out more about Legacy Mode, go HERE.

Only a biologically male and biologically female cat will produce children.

To have children you must fill out and send this form in the #family-requests channel in the Discord server:
